Your Guide To Georgetown Coffee Shops: My Three Favorites

Writer's picture: Samantha MixSamantha Mix

Nestled along the Potomac River, Georgetown isn’t just a historic neighborhood in Washington, D.C.—it’s a coffee lover’s paradise. With its cobblestone streets and charming storefronts, this vibrant district offers a mix of coffee shops, each with its own unique vibe and flavor profile. While there are over a dozen coffee options in the neighborhood I want to break down my top three favorites.

Blank Street Coffee

Atmosphere:
Blank Street began as a coffee truck and, in just two years, has grown to over 40 shops worldwide. It positions itself as a micro-café—cheaper and more welcoming than Starbucks, offering better coffee than Dunkin’, and more accessible than independent coffee shops. Unlike Starbucks’ “third place” concept, Blank Street focuses on efficiency. Stores are small (under 350 square feet), use high-volume automated Eversys espresso machines, and are designed to get customers in and out quickly. Most locations run with just two employees and the cozy interiors feature 70’s-style furniture, warm lighting, sage green tones, and greenery, creating an inviting atmosphere.
“We don’t need to be the most amazing cup of coffee you’ve ever had. We want to be the really good cup of coffee that you drink twice a day, every day.” — Mr. Freiha, Blank Street founder

Drinks:
The menu includes both creative and classic options. Popular choices are the Pistachio Latte, Strawberries and Cream Latte, and the Matcha Latte—delicious both hot and iced. You’ll also find signature cold brews, shaken chais, espresso staples like cortados, and hot chocolates.

Food:
While food isn’t Blank Street’s main focus, they offer a curated selection of pastries to pair with your coffee.

Price:
Blank Street delivers quality coffee at a reasonable price. A 16-ounce iced latte costs $4.25—falling between Dunkin’ ($3.75) and Starbucks ($5.50). However, they do charge extra for cold drinks, alternative milk, and syrups.

Blank Street Coffee is perfect for those looking for a reliable, everyday coffee experience.

Blue Bottle Coffee

Atmosphere:
Off of Georgetown's main street, Blue Bottle is an attraction as well as a local's favorite spot. The space has high ceilings, an open concept, a sleek coffee bar, and accents of their signature blue everywhere. The café’s bright, modern interior features wooden accents and large windows that flood the space with natural light.

Drinks:
Blue Bottle’s menu is a celebration of simplicity and quality. Known for their freshly roasted beans, every beverage is crafted to perfection. While they're known for their simple pour-overs, lattes, and cappuccinos they also offer Seasonal beverages like the NOLA Cola, available during the summer months. But the standout must-try is their signature NOLA—a coffee blend infused with roasted chicory, milk, and organic cane sugar. It’s a perfectly smooth, slightly sweet treat that’s best enjoyed over ice. Tea lovers and non-coffee drinkers also have plenty of options.

Mission and Values: Bluebottle does not focus on food but by favorite part about them is their values.
Sustainability is at the heart of Blue Bottle’s mission. They prioritize ethical sourcing, eco-friendly practices, and community engagement, making your coffee experience both delicious and responsible.

Price:
Blue Bottle strikes a balance between quality and affordability. A drip coffee will set you back around $3–$4, while lattes range from $4–$6—well worth it for the care and craftsmanship that goes into each cup.

Maman

Atmosphere:
Maman is more than just a coffee shop—it’s a bakery, restaurant, and event space wrapped into one. Upon entering, you’re greeted by white brick walls with lush greenery and delicate white flowers hanging from the ceilings, alongside their signature blue-and-white patterned décor. The calming, homey vibe is perfect for connecting with others or simply unwinding.

The dining area feels like stepping into someone’s charming home, complete with china plates and unique mugs. If you're in a hurry, a to-go coffee bar down the corridor allows you to watch baristas craft your drink while you relax on a velvet sofa. Whether dining in or grabbing a quick coffee, Maman’s ambiance is warm, classical, and inviting.

Drinks:
Maman’s cold brew is a standout—smooth and flavorful without the need for cream or sweeteners. But their seasonal drinks truly shine. Their Pumpkin Pie Latte has been a customer favorite for over ten years, and newer options like the Mademoiselle's Brown Sugar & Sage Latte or the Whipped Cinnamon Honey Cappuccino bring unique, tastes to the menu.

If you’re a fan of classics, Maman also offers lattes, cappuccinos, and drip coffee with the option to customize with their limited syrups. My all-time favorite drink from Maman was a summer special: the Banana Caramel Iced Latte—a perfect balance of sweet and creamy.

Food:
Maman’s food offerings set it apart from competitors. Their pastries are exceptional—try the almond croissant, with its perfectly flaky layers and almond filling, or the ham and cheese croissant, which comes with a salty pickle for a sweet-and-savory contrast.
They also offer a full menu, including waffles, breakfast bowls, and tartines, making it an excellent brunch spot. Occasionally, Maman surprises customers with limited offerings, like their limited “giant cookies,” they dropped for one weekend in August.

Price:
Coffee at Maman ranges from $3 for drip coffee to $7 for specialty lattes, offering a moderate price point for drinks. However, the food leans more toward an upscale dining experience, reflecting the quality of their menu.

Maman is a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy exceptional coffee, inventive drinks, and a bakery experience in a setting that feels like home.

Honorable Mention

Compass Coffee:

This chain has reliable good coffee with a welcoming warm atmosphere but I have my favorites over them. I would recommend the nitro cold brew- it comes on tap and is perfectly frothy every time.

Georgetown’s coffee shops have something for everyone. These three favorites—Blank Street, Blue Bottle, and Maman—capture the best of what this charming neighborhood has to offer.
